Avvicinarsi a questo autoritratto è stato per me un viaggio nel pudore. Per mesi e mesi mi è sembrato ‘troppo’ e rinunciavo anche solo all’idea.

Poi in una torrida mattinata estiva, mentre fuori dalle finestre i bambini urlavano e gli adulti ridevano per una semi libertà riconquistata alla pandemia, mi sono spogliato completamente dei vestiti e ho affrontato la tela bianca. Volevo un combattimento ad armi pari.

È stato un bel viaggio con me stesso che è durato fino a notte fonda, dimenticando di mangiare e bere ma lasciando il mondo coi suoi problemi fuori da casa mia almeno per un po’.

Mixed tecnique

Approaching this self-portrait was a journey into modesty for me. For months and months, it seemed ‘too much’ and I gave up to even just the idea.

Then in a hot summer morning, while children were screaming outside the windows and adults were laughing for semi-freedom regained from the pandemic, I stripped off my clothes completely and faced the blank canvas. I wanted an equal fight.

It was a nice journey with myself that lasted well into the night, forgetting to eat and drink but leaving the world with its problems outside my home, at least for a while.
